Wexer acquires Fitness First subsidiary

Supplier: Wexer

CFL initially entered into a partnership agreement with Wexer in May 2016
Virtual fitness provider Wexer has purchased London-based mobile app development company Connected Fitness Labs (CFL) for an undisclosed sum.

CFL – a standalone subsidiary of Fitness First – initially entered into a partnership agreement with Wexer in May 2016 to create B2B mobile fitness app Wexer Mobile.

The acquisition means Wexer can take sole control of the app, fully integrating it into its digital fitness solution, which covers virtual classes (Wexer Virtual), gym floor training (Wexer Trainer), live streaming (Wexer Broadband) and tracking of virtual participation (Wexer Count), as well as the app.

“Bringing CFL under the Wexer umbrella allows us to become a true one-stop shop for digital fitness,” said Paul Bowman, Wexer chief executive. “It represents a new opportunity for operators to bring together all the facets of their offering into one seamless digital experience, broadening the reach and scope of their brands and helping them stay relevant in a rapidly evolving digital market.”

The Wexer Mobile app was designed to expand a gym’s reach beyond its four walls, allowing members to develop personalised workouts, set goals and access a video library of hundreds of exercises, as well as track their progress and provide feedback on their fitness.

Brands that have introduced the app include Fitness First Asia, which has used it to create digital memberships and grow revenue by reaching new audiences and markets.

Fitness First chief executive Oren Peleg said: “To date we have successfully worked with Wexer to develop an integrated market leading digital solution for club operators. But single ownership of this product is the way forward to continue to drive innovation and accelerate distribution.”

The integration of Connected Fitness Labs and Wexer will take place over the next few weeks.

Through a range of digital products and services Wexer helps club groups connect with members both inside and outside the four walls of the gym. The original product, Wexer Virtual, features world-class exercise content and allows 24h usage of group exercise and cycling studios. The gym floor product, Wexer Trainer, helps clubs activate their functional space. Wexer also offer Wexer Mobile, an app, which allows streaming of both live and pre-recorded classes as well as ‘on-the-fly’ exercise programming which can be used whenever, wherever.
