Dante audio makes the right noises at Merlin’s London cluster

The Dante audio system powers the Coca-Cola London Eye
Audinate’s Dante audio networking system has been employed at some of the UK’s busiest visitor attractions, with Merlin adopting the technology at its Coca-Cola London Eye, Shrek’s Adventure! London and SEA LIFE London Aquarium.

Dante was chosen for a number of reasons, including being easy to configure, being able to send audio over long distances, being able to function with an existing network infrastructure (using standard IP networks to transmit high-quality, uncompressed audio) and being able to closely synchronise audio and video.

For example, in the Shrek midway, 7th Sense media servers synchronise audio and video through Dante Virtual Soundcards, allowing live performers to interact in real time with characters on displays or projections.

“With Dante what we needed was rock-solid reliability – and that’s what we got,” said Simon Casey, senior show services manager at the Coca-Cola London Eye.

At the London Eye, Dante’s ability to deliver long-distance means that background audio can be playing in the ticket hall, the queue line and on the ride.

“The 7th Sense media servers have all got built-in Dante Virtual Soundcards and are outputting audio across the attraction site to the Crown amplifiers,” said Casey. “Dante gives us the flexibility and ease of use that we require to send audio over large distances and an existing network infrastructure. We can also send audio to other areas of the site – for example, messages for the ticket hall can be relayed to those waiting in the ride queue area at the Coca-Cola London Eye.”

The audio set up at Shrek’s Adventure! also features Medialon show controllers, 7th Sense media servers, BSS DSP, Crown amplifiers and VUE Audiotechnik loudspeaker systems.
